The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, as amended, place responsibilities on employers in relation to employees who use display screen equipment (DSE) as part of their work.
Where a DSE user requests an eye and eyesight test, the employer must arrange an appropriate test. Where the test shows that special corrective appliances are necessary specifically for DSE work, the employer must provide them in accordance with the regulations.

Please note that employers are generally required to provide basic DSE-specific corrective appliances where necessary; they are not required to pay for spectacles prescribed for purposes unrelated to DSE work or for optional upgrades beyond the basic appliance.
