Eye Health: Your Eye Test

Here at Lichfield Street Opticians we take the health and care of your eyes very seriously. That is why our eye tests are unhurried, thorough and use the latest in opthalmologic technology. It’s not just a simple eye test - we will give you a complete ocular health check!

We include digital retinal photography as a standard part of our examinations, which allows us to see the inside of your eyes with an amazingly high level of detail that can help us to spot and track a variety of ocular problems such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, as well as conditions that go beyond mere eye health, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

We also offer field test screening at no extra cost if it is necessary to ensure that your ocular health is as strong as possible. Should you need spectacles, we work to ensure that not only do you gain the right frame for you but also that your lenses correct your vision perfectly.

At Lichfield Street Opticians in Wolverhampton we take care of your vision!

Seeing the Future is Easy...

“Every day around 100 people in the UK start to lose their sight.”

Our eyesight is one of the most precious gifts that we have. Once lost, it may never be replaced. According to statistics compiled by Fight for Sight, in the United Kingdom the three most common causes of vision impairment are age-related Macular Degeneration (40%), Glaucoma (13%) and (Diabetic Retinopathy (8%). The good news is that there are many preventative measures that we can take to ensure that our eyes remain healthier for longer. These include having regular eye examinations, stopping smoking and keeping our eyes protected in the sun. Good nutrition is also very important to healthy eyes. More and more research points to the importance of proper nutrition in the treatment and prevention of age related eye diseases and fortunately, there are companies that dedicate themselves to the education of eye nutrition and the development of effective and safe supplements to ensure that your eyes last longer no matter how old you are!

Why Do We Need to Test our Eyes Regularly?

We all rely on our vision for every aspect of our daily lives. We are taking in a terrific amount of information through our eyes all the time, whether by reading, watching television, even walking down the road. Sometimes our very lives depend on having good eyesight; for example - every time you drive on the road, or when you are on foot trying to cross said road!

And yet most people do not have regular eye tests, and many of them have never been to see an optician.

The reason for this is in part due to the fact that in most cases your eyes will not tell you that something is wrong. Unlike teeth, which become painful quickly when a problem arises, eyesight most often tends to deteriorate in a very gradual manner over time - sometimes taking months or years. People genuinely do not notice that their eyesight is faltering.

But, just like oral health and hygiene, regular eye examinations help to detect problems early. This is important because if a condition is caught early, there is a greater chance of successful treatment, especially in the case of children and the elderly. If you are a regular driver, it is imperative that you take eye tests at least every two years, or as your optician recommends, and that your prescription is up-to-date, in order to legally drive - Please see the DVLA for more information.
